Most plants we work with did not set out to find a second-source supplier. They were pushed into it by a long lead time, a price spike, or a quality issue with the original parts. If you are in that position, a few checks up front save grief later.
First, confirm the part actually matches on paper — drawing, tolerances, material grade — not just the name. Second, ask for the chemistry and hardness data behind any "high chrome" claim; the number matters more than the label. Third, check how the supplier handles balancing and machining on rotating parts, since that drives bearing life. Fourth, start small: one impeller and a liner installed alongside the originals gives you a real comparison without betting the line.
The supplier that is easiest to work with long term is usually the one willing to review a worn part, accept your drawing, and tell you when something looks off. That working relationship tends to matter more than a marginal price difference on a single shipment.
