Among the parameters that decide a slurry pump, flow and head get most of the attention. Slurry density — often expressed as concentration by weight — is the quiet one that changes everything else.
Two pumps moving the same volume of water versus the same volume of 60%-by-weight copper concentrate are doing very different jobs. The denser stream needs more power, loads the wet end harder, and often shifts the best liner material. A selection made on water alone will under-spec the pump for the real duty.
This is why we always ask for concentration and particle size before recommending a pump or a liner, even when the customer already knows the flow and head. The density figure is what tells us whether we are pumping water or moving rock, and the answer changes the parts we would put in the box.
If you are reviewing an under-performing pump, the first thing worth checking is whether the as-built selection assumed a lighter slurry than what now runs through it. That single mismatch explains a surprising share of "the pump is wrong" complaints.
